synergykvm - a free, open source project to share mouse and keyboard over the network with multiple computers, Mac, Windows, Linux. Truly great. If you're using a Mac for one of the computers get the SynergyKM system preference pane. Excellent!
something like that, but it's two machines. Here's a picture if that helps, http://tinyurl.com/ 22qwge I can use my keyboard and mouse on my laptop (off to the left, in case you didn't notice ;P).

it allows you to move your mouse between two computers, but you use only 1 mouse and keyboard, as soon as you figure it out.

It's a wonderful soft-kvm. I've always had fun with it.

it took me a little while, but then I decided to go and read the documentation, and then it all made sense

I heard about this application on one of those PodCast shows. I'm gonna try it out between my XP laptop and an Ubuntu desktop.

So basically it's like having two monitors on one computer without actually doing that?
